I have what you would call outfit anxiety. I get extremely nervous about if I am dressed correctly. Teaching can be a difficult profession to dress. Comfort is key. You will probably be standing all day and you might get messy. As you can see, I send a lot and probably too much time picking out what I want to wear each day to school. College classes is a WAY different story. But in a school setting, I need to dress to show others that I take my job seriously and that I am a professional. With that being said I figured I could share what I have found to work well for me. So bear with me as I share awkward mirror seflies. There's really no way to take a nonawkward selfie, but I will sure try! Each picture will include where I got each piece from and a link if possible. A lot of my pieces are not online as they have been in my closet for a few seasons already. It will still give you a general idea where you might look to find something similar as stores general carry items that aren't too different year to year, don't tell them I told you.
Friday | This was probably my favorite outfit this week. I have a REALLY hard time finding dress pants that fit me correctly. These pants are extremely comfortable and fit really nice! Tank: Gap Outlet Pants: Gap (These are on sale for $29!) Cardigan: Gap Shoes: Mejer Jewelery: Charming Charlie's and Pandora |
Causal Friday! I am still feeling out the boundaries and rules at school so I didn't think it would be good to try a t-shirt and jeans. Cardigan: Walmart (I found last Winter for $7) Tank: Gap Scarf: Old Navy Pants: Old Navy Shoes: Reebok (These shoes are extremely comfy and great for days where I'm on my feet a lot.) Jewelery: Pandora, Ann Klein and Charming Charlie's |
Week 1: Recap
I can't believe how fast the first week went. I really think this year is going to be a great learning experience. I'm afraid to blink, I don't wait it to go too fast. What I love about PDS is that I get some really valuable time spent working in the classroom. I'm not just observing. I'm hands-on and interacting with the students and other staff members in the building. Learning how to help a student who is struggling to copy sentences off the board is not something you learn in a college class or can read from a textbook. A few different times this week I ran into situations were I wasn't sure what to do. This happens to everyone. I did what I thought was the right thing and asked for guidance from my CT later. I have to remember that I am still a student, I don't know everything and I myself am still learning. One co-worker from this summer wrote me a note on my first day and suggested that I say very little. Stand back and observe, take everything in. Don't make comments. I'm a talker so this is difficult for me to keep my mouth shut.
Yesterday I had an orientation for PDS and they talked about a few of the many things we have to turn in this semester. I will get the chance to sit down and talk with my CT about some goals that I have for myself over the course of the next few months. My CT will also evaluate me each week. I think this is going to really show me the areas that I need to work on as a teacher and maybe even individually. So many times evaluations can mean what we are doing wrong and this can be hard to hear. I know I have a lot to learn. I'm trusting that my CT is going to be able to provide me with plenty of support to help me through this year.
Question for current teachers: What was one thing you wish someone had told you before you started teaching in your own classroom.
Future teachers: What the best piece of advice you have received so far?
